Fila recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary as a company. The Fila brothers initially opened in 1911 in Biella a small town in northern Italy. Much of the creations the brothers has coined were in combining “luxury, art and utility,” having drawn inspiration from the landscape to create a product like none other. By 1923 the brothers where officially on the books in a limited partnership as Maglifico Biellese spending its ensuing years expanding to 1942 when the company merged with the Fratelli Fila company and another 30 years later the company had sales well over one billion Lire and more than 250 people on their staff.
Throughout the years Fila had drawn its inspiration from landscapes and coming up with a model they would live by which would be “sport is life expressed through motion, and that sportswear must complement, not overpower the athlete.” Seemingly Fila has kept true to its roots in consistently instilling these as core values for their vision, remaining true to their company creating textiles based on the “austerity of the Alps, the fluidity of the hills and the boldness of the Mediterranean coast.”
One of Filas most greatest creations being unique and both useful is the Skele-toes Amp. The shoe itself boasts a running style which is a lightweight airmesh and micro suede upper for cooling comfort and lasting support. The vamp has a Bungee lace system for a custom fit with an added lace-lock feature for both a secured and personalized fit. It lends to a running style with a tri-athalon style with the bungee lace system. The shoe sits on flexible cushioned EVA midsoles which flex nicely. The outsole features a minimal rubber outsole insets with an integrated pull-tab at the heel. Beyond the typical stylish construction you will notice 4, yes 4 toes. Each toe has it’s own separate compartment along with the EZ-Slide feature, combines the two smallest toes for ease of entry.
Having owned these I find them to be an extremely comfortable shoe, and a great value for those looking for an everyday sneaker. I typically own two sets of sneakers, one for strictly running (and I mean strictly, they are NOT worn elsewhere) and others for fashion and walking, and these hold up well. This shoe is very lightweight and flexible. This shoe holds up for miles of walking at a time, and remained comfortable from day one. Skepticism caught the well of me when deciding to try a shoe with four toes,… the initial reaction, as next to most was, “four toes?? Pretty sure I have five, this may not be comfortable.” To my surprise the four toes system works, when it says EZ-Slide, it means it, with ease of the pull tab at the back of the shoe I can easily slide my toes into place without having to fiddle with the shoe, and all of them still move independently. I equate the feeling, similar to walking in a comfortable sandal, they are that comfortable.
Tim from Bowling Green, Kentucky, “I went for a four mile run. Bear with me, as I’m pretty excited by these thing-they are incredible. I ran faster, farther and with less pain than with any shoe I’ve ever worn in my life. They are incredibly light-literally the same weight as the racing spikes I wore when I ran track in high school. They are extremely comfortable, pliable and give runners the best of both world-the protection of a good running shoe when you need it-i.e., going downhill, running on rough surfaces, etc- but also the feeling of running primarily on your forefoot and reduced joint shock with that running style promotes. I had a pair of the original skele-toes, but has to stop running in them because I kept straining my calf muscles. With this model, that shouldn’t be a problem because I can balance the amount of stress I put on my calves versus the amount on my heels.
Matt from New York, New York, “This shoe was something I have been wanting for a long time. I had problems with my heel hurting even with inserts in some traditional shoes but when I used these, the heel pain was gone and I could even run three miles without the usual pain. They also helped tremendously when running because they’re so light and conforming. The sole wasn’t as hard as I though it would have been so that was a plus and the sole also has individual “segments” so it conforms and flexes better. All in all, these shoes are really great and an awesome purchase.”
Alex, “The first time I saw these shoes I have to admit that I jokes around with the guy who introduced them to me. In the end I decided to give them a try and they are unbelievable. They are very light, comfortable and great a for long walks, and exercising. In the heat of South Florida they are very refreshing, don’t get overly warm or anything, but if you are using them without socks you should throw them in the wash and air dry to keep them clean. I totally recommend this product and hope that more fashionable designs are made for more casual wear. Congratulations Fila!”
Truly this is a great shoe at a phenomenal value. A great sneaker to both kick around in or to use as a workout sneaker starting with roots in a minimalist styled shoe. Its versatility makes this one of the best out there, even though it may be an entertaining looking shoe, certainly a must have and a shoe to try on with all the best intentions in mind!
